Watching to Improve

In this field, I think that it's a perk that you can improve yourself even when you're enjoying a film. Experimenting on your own is also tiring, so it helps to observe the work of others. Although your attention might be on the technicalities, you'd still get to watch something good. What works have inspired yours?

Watching other people's works makes a difference and helps a filmmaker with newer ideas. I prefer to watch behind-the-scene footage because there is more to learn. Improving oneself can happen at any point in a filmmaker's journey.

Learning can also come to you when you're least expecting it. Some ideas just sprout, while you go on with everyday life. When I'm tired, I'd usually spend time watching Tedtalks to gain more perspective. It's not directly related to filmmaking, but the insights there help.

I agree. The effect is that you will be somewhere working on a project then an idea comes up based on something you watched. I think that as photographers, we should be learning something new every day!
