Updating Equipment

Nowadays, it's easier to become aware when a new camera model comes out along with other equipment. There are times when people would buy a new one just to have the latest product even when it's not needed. Do you update your equipment when a new one comes out? How often do you buy new stuff?

I wish I had the money to upgrade every time a new model comes out. I update when I need to......when my experience outgrows my equipment.......but not when something flashy is shown to me.

When I actually need a new camera, I wait until the latest model has been out a while. That gives the company a chance to update any firmware that might be buggy. I'm not paying for a hassle.

It is ok to purchase the latest equipment but only based on need and whether a photographer can afford it. From a business sense, it is needless to buy what you don't need. Are there people that stock cameras as a hobby?
