Taking a good portrait photo

I love taking portraits because, in my opinion, they are the most powerful kinds of photographs. A dedicated portrait lens is necessary for those who own DSLRs. When in action, the camera should be level or slightly above the subject's eye line.

That's a skill that I'm working to perfect at the moment, so I appreciate the tips. I usually shoot landscapes and portraits feel like a whole different world. I'd love to hear some more tips if you have them.

Portrait photography relies on a photographer's creative ability, sense of the subject, and handle of the camera. A 50mm lens does not harm, though this is considered a mid-range telephoto lens. However, you can opt for a longer one in the 85mm to 200mm range!
