Newbie video camera

I've heard good things about the Canon line of video cameras, so I'm pretty set on this brand. I'm interested in making documentaries and short films. Which video camera would you recommend for a newbie? I'm not as concerned with price as I'm about finding something that's not too complicated to use.

I don't think you'll find anything much easier to use than the Canon VIXIA HF R800, so give that one a look. It has the traditional fit and feel of a camcorder and its LCD touchscreen helps make it a snap to use. Plus, it offers image stabilization, which is a plus for beginners.
