National Geographic photographers

Did you know that National Geographic has been in circulation since 1888? I can't think of anything that comes close to it as a symbol of story and dramatic photography! I am just wondering what it takes to be a NatGeo photographer? I understand that there are many of them with different specialties.

A BA in photography sure wouldn't hurt. But with an outfit like NatGeo, it would help a lot if you know someone who's on the inside.

I had the impression that with publications like NatGeo, they would approach you and invite you to take pictures for them. They can afford to be choosy about who they hire, that's for sure!

They host regular competitions so keep your eyes peeled for the next one. Rumor has it that they favor images that aren't heavily edited. It's more about talent than computer skills.
