Lighting Equipment for Wildlife

Capturing images of wildlife is best to do both in daytime and nighttime, which led me to wonder what lighting gear can be helpful. Would using camera flash be enough? The specs can help with the lighting, but preparing other tools wouldn't hurt.

I'm not a wildlife photographer, so I can't say that I've tried it myself, but I've heard from friends that they get everything set up and camouflaged then they hunker down and prepare to take a shot. The animals usually scatter when they first come around, but will come back once there's no noise or movement.
