How to snap frost flowers?

I saw a special feature on my local news station that showcased regional photographers. One image was absolutely breathtaking. The newscaster called it a frost flower, but didn't say much else about it. What sort of camera/lens do you think is best for capturing this rare bit of nature?

I'd say that any camera will do, so long as you have a macro lens. I think that frost flowers are pretty rare. I hope you can find one.

A Sony accessory, the Tamron 17-70 mm f2.8 Di III-A VC RXD, is said to be tailored for up-close nature shots like this.

Capturing one, and then superimposing a "ghost" of a loved one in the background, is a great way to tell a loved one how rare they are to you. ;)

You like that Goldflash? Superimposing a loved one in the background?
I've never heard of a frost flower. I'm going to have to look it up.
