Greatest Examples of Directing

What, in your opinion, are the best examples of unique or creative directing or cinematography?
One that comes to mind is "Rope" by Hitchcock, an entire film shot in one continuous take. ( Actually "dolly shots" were used, i.e. the back of somebody's jacket, as a cassette of film was only a maximum of 1000 feet, or 10 minutes long.)

Oh wow, I had no idea. That's amazing, especially when you consider that was back in the day! Thanks for sharing, ZoomShot. Hitchcock is at the top of my list, but I hadn't heard that one about him.

Just imagine what is must have been like directing a film like "The Birds." There was no computer-generated imagery then, he and his team actually directed birds!
Hitchcock may have been a genius, but I could venture to say not a nice genius. He, for one scene, persuaded members of his crew to hurl live seagulls at Tippi Hedren's head!
