Colors at Play

You rarely see other shades of colors in food commercials and posters. Dark colors are more common than pastel, even if the latter is relaxing to the eyes. Are there specific colors that designers value more when making graphics for food commercials?

I always notice lots of white. Do they do that in order to make the area look cleaner or something? It seems sterile to me, but it must work.

I've heard that fast food restaurants use red to make you want to eat or order more. I think there's some psychology behind that. The colors used probably vary depending on what the advertisements want to tell the consumers.

Indeed, the white areas make the designs look neater. However, companies probably do this to make the customer remember the brand easily. With a minimal background, anyone's attention can automatically shift to the logo.
